Our Mission
The McMaster Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Initiative is an integrated network of academics and professionals in science, engineering, and related fields whose mission is to support, celebrate, and advocate for female-identified and other equity-seeking groups in science and engineering at McMaster University and the surrounding community.
We work towards:

Fostering an interdisciplinary community of supporters and advocates for gender equality in science and engineering to promote communication and collaboration between different disciplines.

Creating an inclusive space to facilitate conversations about gender equality and equity for all individuals in STEM.

Cultivating a supportive network of female mentorship at all career levels in the university and beyond academia, with a strong focus on professional development and building interpersonal relationships.

Our Initiatives
To develop women’s leadership skills, confidence, and involvement in STEM fields, WISE focuses on building a supportive community of men and women through 4 initiatives:
Mentorship & Fostering Support
We have an exciting mentorship program for anyone interested in growing professionally and academically, where we match them with professors, industry professionals, alumni, or upper year students.
Professional & Academic Development
Our Professional Development initiative hosts interactive networking events for students throughout the year with companies in STEM including software, IT, science, pharmaceuticals and more!
Community Outreach
Our Community Outreach initiative reaches out to the GTA community to share our mission of promoting women's perserverance to achieve gender quality in STEM fields.
Annual CREST Conference
Our annual Current Research in STEM Conference aims to empower and inspire individuals to pursue their passions, explore new opportunities, and to make meaningful, lasting connections.
